Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

New Project

I love cooking. I love cookbooks. I own too many cookbooks. Last night I decided, since I have certain recipes that we use all the time, I needed to gather them and put them down in one book, and then make a pile of the ones I want try, then toss the rest that I will never use and donate the books that never get used anymore as well. There are a few from when Andrew and I first got married that I made a few things out of, but there was nothing that I would make anymore. A lot of casseroles. And does not like casseroles. So far, I have gotten rid of quite a bit. There are a few books I will always own: my Better Homes and Gardens book for those moments I need a basic recipe, my Country Living Encyclopedia, Nourishing Traditions, Jordan Rubin books, but there are sooo many that I like two recipes out of, but use none of the others, so they are taking up space that I want for other things. I also wanted to be sure that the recipes my kids grow up eating are in one place so they have them later when they want to do a little nostalgia cooking. I am also excited about a new food blog, and want the things I like to make all in one place. It will be a timesaver (I tend to have to search piles of recipes to find certain ones on a regular basis, especially if they were clipped numbers)and a clutter dissipater. And I am trying to only work on it in the evenings during tv time, so I can have my days free for the list and the kids.

  1. I am so with you on this. I have a ton of cookbooks and recipes that need organized. I always seem to get overwhelmed with it every time I try and just give up. =) I hope you have better luck than me!

  2. Think of me when you are tossing the Casserole book. I love them 'cause its one dish & they freeze easily for busy days. Or I would just like to know which ones work for y'all.

I welcome hospitable, intelligent discussion. I do not welcome mean-spirited comments. Though they are "moderated" I post pretty much everything, with a very, very small exception-that being spam and those who aim to hurts others intentionally. I'd love hear what you have to say, otherwise!
